It’s a movie that ushered in the CGI era of visual effects.
Steven Spielberg’s JURASSIC PARK taps into the idea of dinosaur DNA being used to revitalise a species across millions of years. For billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), he decides to realize this dream through his own theme park island, Isla Nublar near Costa Rica.
To approve it to the backers, he recruits Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his partner Ellie (Laura Dern) to come to the island, along with Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), who is horrified by the lack of consideration to try and use nature in a subversive way to alter the genetic future of the world.
However, this park doesn’t play by the rules – and when one of Hammond’s assistants, Nedry (Wayne Knight) decides to claim some of the dinosaur embryos for a rival by shutting down the park power supply, all hell breaks loose…
Whilst not as good as it could have been, JURASSIC PARK still has one incredible sequence within – the arrival of the T-Rex which remains one of the most phenomenal effects moments of all time. The sequel, THE LOST WORLD, taps into the potential even more.
