Filmed around the time he was making TAXI DRIVER at the Band’s final concert at Winterland San Francisco, Martin Scorsese’s THE LAST WALTZ is part interview and recollection by the band themselves, led by lead singer Robbie Robertson who had decided to put together a farewell gig featuring some of the top influences in their career, including Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Van Morrison, as well as their lead singer Bob Dylan.

The gig itself was put together by legend Bill Graham and lasted considerably longer than the two hours we see here and was the accumulation of sixteen years of recording and touring.
