Sam Raimi’s 2004 follow-up to SPIDER-MAN is even more fun and assured than its’ predecessor. Graduated from high-school and now finding it tough in the big city, which gets even tougher when he gets fired from his job as a pizza delivery boy, but still hoping to take pictures for money for the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is invited by best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco) to meet with Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina, AN EDUCATION / RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK) who is experimenting with fusion reactors to make a safer option.
However, when the demonstration to the press goes wrong and his wife is killed indirectly when Spider-Man attempts to stop the demonstration, Octavius is transformed into Dr. Octopus – and swears revenge on the web-slinger…
A classic hero v villain story with the sort of thrills last seen in SUPERMAN II back in 1980, SPIDER-MAN 2 explodes with fun and frivolity across the board.
