Halloween II

1981 (US) / 1982 (UK)
Horror

With the success of HALLOWEEN, which spawned a whole sub-genre of imitators, a sequel was inevitable.

Starting immediately after the climax of the first film, Michael Myers (Dick Warlock) has disappeared into the back alleys of Haddonfield, Illinois and is out for more killing, but he is still after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) who has been taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasance) is determined, with the help of local sheriff Leigh Brackett (Charles Cyphers), father of one of the victims of the original film, to kill Myers, but a mistaken identity results in the death by immolation of a local teen looking like Myers in a mask. Meanwhile, Myers heads for the hospital, where he is determined to stake his claim for the place…

Directed by Rick Rosenthal (but allegedly some sequences were shot after shooting was completed by original director and now co-writer and producer of the sequel John Carpenter), the film does hold up pretty well as a decent sequel, although it was heavily criticised by some horror fans of the original film at the time.. Carpenter also co-scores the film with Alan Howarth, whom he worked on ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK with.
