Political Drama, True Story

One of the most infamous true stories of British injustice, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (with one or two liberties taken with the narrative and combination of characters) tells of the wrongful imprisonment of Gerry (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Guiseppe Conlon (Pete Postlewaite, THE LOST WORLD – JURASSIC PARK, BRASSED OFF) who are blamed for a pub bombing in Guildford by the IRA.

The accusations and charges are quick to be brought forward and after a trail at the Old Bailey, the Conlons are sent off to prison where they are given a cold welcome by the established prisoners. However, when the real bombers confess, the path to proper justice and vindication begins….

A very powerful drama, with one of Day-Lewis’ career best, plus a great supporting role from Emma Thompson as Gareth Pierce, the lawyer who become the representative for the Conlon’s. Music provided by U2’s Bono amongst others.
