FLASH GORDON has become one of the all-time great well-loved classics of sci-fi cinema. A huge hit in the UK back in 1980 / 1981, it took its’ time to make it bigger in the USA, but the journey of its’ lead actor, Sam J. Jones, is even more fascinating.
LIFE AFTER FLASH, one of the most official documentaries ever made about the film, chronicles some parts of the production, as well as the fate that befell Jones after his first – and only – lead role in a blockbuster film. With contributions from some of the key participants, including co-star Melody Anderson (Dale Arden), Brian Blessed (Vultan) and Peter Wyngarde (Klytus) amongst others, as well as some original archive footage from the set, the film creates an interesting backdrop and context.
Jones was dubbed after being released from the film on completion of principal photography in post production, but the film focuses on his return to the fold to the fan conventions across the world and reveals a separate side to his life beyond the big screen.
Hugely entertaining and informative.
