Set in 1979, years after the events of THE GODFATHER – PART II, THE GODFATHER CODA sees Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) trying to make legitimate in-roads, courtesy of a hopefully rich deal with the Vatican. Unfortunately, the current Pope’s ill-health, coupled with a long-standing feud between Michael’s successor in the passed-on family business, Joey Sasa (Joe Mantegna) and Michael’s nephew, Vincent (Andy Garcia), the hot-headed son of Sonny (James Caan in the original film), are blackening any chance that something could happen. With Michael entering his twilight years, there is much to be considered….
A more assured cut of the film than the original version, Coppola’s reimagination proves a worthy addition to the legendary series.
