The Sound of Music

1965
Musical

The hills were alive – and now lockdown houses need to be – with THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Directed by Robert Wise from a screenplay by Ernest Lehman (NORTH BY NORTHWEST), adapted from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, the film tells of conflicted Salzburg wannabe-nun Maria (Julie Andrews) who is sent into the community to see the error of her ways before committing to the true faith. She finds a job as a Governess to Captain Georg Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) , a widower to seven children and begins to try and help the family realize the joy of life and the spirit of the world during World War II, when the dark elements are conspiring.

Released originally as a roadshow release amidst mixed reviews, THE SOUND OF MUSICbecame a family and crowd-pleasing favourite with its’ numerous hit songs, among them the title track, DO-RE-MI and MY FAVOURITE THINGS, all of which have passed into movie and musical legend.

A film that is addictive and stimulating as an experience and one that all the family can sing along to in the right mood.
