Ally (Lady Gaga) is a waiter by day, lounge singer at a burlesque bar by night. Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper, who directs as well) is a troubled veteran singer with increased hearing problems who is wowed by Ally and persuades her to sing a song he hears from her a-capella in a parking lot after having a post-show drink at his next big sell-out show. Quitting her job, Ally soon becomes the dominating talent, whilst Maine has to come to terms with the law of diminishing talent and returns…
Well-filmed and emotional drama, with Lady Gaga in sterling form in both the acting and vocal stakes and Cooper showing some of the talent of someone who has learned from good directors like David O. Russell in films like AMERICAN HUSTLE and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, as well as giving a brilliant performance as the fading star.
