CHICKEN TOWN

2025

People on a road to nowhere has been a theme of films over the years (personified in the classic Talking Heads song from 1985). Disenfranchised youth and the desire to protect those we care about are two other motifs, particularly in British youth cinema like QUADROPHENIA and SCUM amongst others.

In the new British indie comedy-drama CHICKEN TOWN, shot in and around Nottingham with local talent, two school friends, Paula (Amelie Davies) and Jayce (Ethaniel Davy) are bound together further when an elderly local Kev Maddams (Graham Fellows) reveals that he has a major stash of weed which he has been growing in his garden.

For Jayce, his friendship with troubled mate Lee Matthews Jr. (Ramy Ben Fredj) whose act of stupidity in a car led to Jayce being made a scapegoat to be put away amidst Lee’s own cowardly course of action in light of the consequences, is another  factor that is a test. Couple that with this new found high of potential and the potential for even more trouble is in the zone….

Entertaining indie film that highlights a regional locality that spawned the likes of Jack O’Connell and Shane Meadows amongst its’ alumni. Characters who may not belong in the right place certainly do have the right kind of hearts – and the film does have some f abulous performances that will definitely hit the right groove for future opportunities if they are given the chance.

CHICKEN TOWN is released in UK cinemas on June 27th.
