Enjoyable sequel to the 1961 action classic THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, directed by Guy Hamilton (GOLDFINGER, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, LIVE AND LET DIE)
Robert Shaw and Edward Fox take over the roles of Mallory and Miller from the original film played there by Gregory Peck and David Niven. In FORCE 10, they are on their way to go after a key traitor who blew their cover on the original mission. They hitch a ride with a US team, led by Lt. Barnsby (Harrison Ford) on a plane in Italy, but get shot down in Yugoslavia.
Barnsby’s team are on their way to blow up a bridge which could stop German tanks and soldiers crossing and gaining a foothold in the territory, but there are more complications along the way…
Criticised for being a little too long after the original film (with a book that admittedly is a little more tighter in plot), FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE was one of Harrison Ford’s early post-STAR WARS roles, made between the 1977 blockbuster and its’ sequel THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Good score by Ron Goodwin (WHERE EAGLES DARE)
