It was inevitable that music superstar Katy Perry would tap into the movie market after a career that had built through many challenges and an equal determination to put herself into the maelstrom of exposure that music artists of all backgrounds aspire to – and thanks to the documentary KATY PERRY – PART OF ME, we get a chance to see at least part of the machine that drove her to the key moments in her successful career.

Focusing on the period that encompassed her then-biggest tour in 2011, ie the TEENAGE DREAM tour which had become one of the biggest arena tours, it is a vibrant and energetic expose of what she is well and truly capable of, showing all sides to her talents.

There are moments of fun, but it also shows the effect of what a long stretch away from home and routine that most of us take for granted can have, even if you are at your most successful – and in this documentary we are witness to some heartbreak as well.

However, as the old adage goes, the show must go on – and Perry does pull through and create some memorable moments on stage with some of her classic hits like HOT AND COLD, CALIFORNIA GURLS and FIREWORK, which seems to be the anthem to all who are determined to follow in her footsteps.

Originally shot in 3D for theatrical release, it remains a colourful experience even in 2D, co-produced by Perry with Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment, who have been responsible for hits like the Ron Howard film APOLLO 13 and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s KINDERGARTEN COP amongst others.
