A group of commandos head down to the (fictional) South American country of Valverde (also used as a location in COMMANDO (1985)) to go on a mission, led by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers as rivals and long-term cohorts. However, there is another soldier from outer space in the zone – and determined to make mincemeat out of men….

The 1987 film that launched John McTiernan to (albeit initially) directorial superstardom (his follow up was the 1988 action classic DIE HARD), the film was conceived by brothers Jim and John Thomas as a joke that became a serious idea (what if RAMBO met an alien?) and was one of two films Joel Silver produced that same year (the other being the first of the original LETHAL WEAPON films which he co-produced with WEAPON series helmer Richard Donner), it was also another respectable hit for Schwarzenegger, coming off the success of THE TERMINATOR and RAW DEAL.
