Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones

2002
Space Fantasy

The second in the STAR WARS ‘Prequel’ Trilogy, ATTACK OF THE CLONES picks up three years after THE PHANTOM MENACE, with gradual unrest within the Galaxy and Senator Palpatine trying to raise more support for his own statement of intent.

A botched assassination attempt on Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) as she returns to Coruscant resulting in the death of a decoy, Corde compels her to seek help, which comes in the form of old friends and Jedi Knights Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin (Hayden Christensen),

Anakin chaperones Padme back to her home planet of Naboo, whilst Obi-Wan decides to head off to Kamino, where he meets Jango Fett (Temeura Morrison) and discovers a clone army that the Jedi Council is unaware of. Anakin is struggling with his own thoughts, with visions of his mother, prompting a trip back to Tatooine to discover the truth….

ATTACK OF THE CLONES is a lot more effects-based than some of the films in the main nine-film saga and actually the subplot between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett is the most interesting and exciting plot in this film (the chase through the Asteroid belt, echoing THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, is the stand-out sequence in this film), but as with EMPIRE, the middle film of any trilogy is merely a pathway to resolution.

Still, it was what the fans demanded.
