A gem from 1993, which capitalised on Marisa Tomei’s Oscar success as Best Supporting Actress opposite Joe Pesci in Jonathan Lynn’s MY COUSIN VINNY.
Unlucky in love Minnesota waitress Caroline (Tomei) has just split up with her boyfriend and confides in her best friend at the diner she works at, Cindy (Rosie Perez). In the background is busboy Adam (Christian Slater, HEATHERS / ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES) who remains aloof and distant to all around him, partly down to his own background in life.
When two customers attempt to attack Caroline on her way home, Adam comes to her rescue and he begins to watch over her a bit more, creating a new seemingly romantic bond between them….
Tomei holds her own in the film, but it is Slater – cast in a change from his more flamboyant roles in the likes of HEATHERS, PUMP UP THE VOLUME and ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES – who is also worthy of mention. Perez adds some spice as Cindy.
