Horror films are profitable – and you can get away with them again and again with the most discerning fans, but in 1994 director Wes Craven decided to subvert expectations of a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET sequel, his most popular film which proved a major hit a decade before this sequel, WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE.
Effectively targeting the creative team behind the fictional fiend Freddy Krueger, who targeted vulnerable teens on Elm Street, the film takes a familiar group of motifs and subverts into a very real and disturbing revamp of a film that had reached its’ peak with PART 4 – THE DREAM MASTER.
Highly enjoyable and unexpected – and one of the best horror sequels of all time.
