Sylvester Stallone cemented his box-office clout with this sequel to the 1976 Oscar-winner ROCKY, in which Rocky Balboa, having gone the distance with World Heavyweight Champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), decides to see alternate ways of making a living, having asked his girlfriend Adrian (Talia Shire) to marry him and with the imminent prospect of fatherhood, this seems like a good choice.
However, his past doesn’t seem to allow him anything other than that of being a boxer – and Creed is keen to prove that the first fight wasn’t a fix rather than the exhibition bout he promoted it as when Rocky took the fight to a tie….
Effectively a re-run of the original film, ROCKY II still nonetheless provides exactly that which the audience who loved the first wanted – and got – in a film that did the business as much as the first.
