Dumb And Dumber

1994
Slapstick comedy

Released in the same initial year as FORREST GUMP, you could say that DUMB AND DUMBER is more a case of ‘Stupid is, but stupid needs to be.

Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) are fired from their jobs Lloyd falls in love with Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly, DRAGON  – THE BRUCE LEE STORY) who is married and wants her kidnapped husband back. Mistakenly picking up a suitcase of ransom money, Lloyd and Harry follow Mary to her destination, pursued by a couple of collectors who are determined to get them out the way….

Some very funny moments (the running gag the owl and Harry’s snowball fight with Mary are the stand-outs!) elevate DUMB AND DUMBER, thanks in no part to the chemistry between Carrey and Daniels, the latter relishing his comedic role as a contrast from some of his more straightforward roles like ARACHNOPHOBIA.
