Brewster’s Millions

1985
Comedy

Montgomery Brewster (Richard Pryor) is a faded baseball star, just dropped from his local team, when he discovers that he has inherited $30m from a distant relative. However, he discovers from a filmed deposition from his relative (Hume Cronyn) that if he spends the $30m with an agreed 30-day period and is penniless, he will inherit $300m.

With the help of an accountant (Lonette McKee), but watched over by her ambitious boyfriend (Stephen Collins, ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, STAR TREK – THE MOTION PICTURE), Brewster begins to splurge, but with the responsibility of wealth comes a determination and a farcical source of conflict as he goes to town….

Director Walter Hill’s 1985 comedy is against the grain of some of his other action classics like 48 HRS, THE WARRIORS and RED HEAT, but it is  watchable with legendary comedian Pryor in the lead.
