Whilst not as effective as the first two films, JAWS 3 (which along with FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3(D) was part of an early 1980s revival of 3D in cinemas) still provides reasonable entertainment.
The son of Martin Brody from the first two films, Mike (Dennis Quaid) is all grown up and working at the new Sea World Complex in Florida, involved with botanist Dr. Kathryn Morgan (Bess Armstrong) and working under Calvin Brouchard (Louis Gossett Jr. AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN).
When a baby shark wanders into the complex, the trio see an opportunity to use it as a way of attracting tourists by helping to rear it in captivity. Unfortunately, they have reckoned without the mother, who is as big and deadly as the great whites in the first two films…
Directed by Joe Alves (who designed the shark on the first film and also John Carpenter’s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK) you can see where the 3D effects are (and there are one or two which are gruesome in this one, though the film did get cut briefly for UK release) and it follows the template of the first two films. Alan Parker (composer, not director) scores the film, only utilising the JAWS theme composed by John Williams.
