BULL-JUMPING, SHORT FILM

The world of bull-jumping and bull fighting often is seen as a moment in films such as ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE (1969) or in the context of the Pamplona Bull Run which was comically shown at the start of CITY SLICKERS (1991). Joe Weiland and Finn Constantine‘s short MARION goes a little deeper with the emotional and physical preparation before a key match.

Marion (Caroline Noguès-Larbère, a real life bull-jumper with no formal acting experience or credits) enters the arena amidst some resistance from the other bull-jumpers. She also has to contend with childcare and  motherhood issues from a reluctant partner who regards her as selfish. Ultimately though, her focus is out there in the arena and whether or not she can pass the latest test against these brutal and wild animals…

Sienna Miller and Cate Blanchett are co-executive producers on this atmospheric and insightful short which takes us into a fascinating and unique world in a culture that celebrates the sport. Excellent cinematography by Harry Wheeler and music by James William Blades also heighten the experience. This is Noguès-Larbère’s showcase and I genuinely think she has the potential to cross over into film work if she is given the opportunity.
